Dallas, TX – The Texas Values
in Action Coalition (TEXVAC) raised over $100,000 at its kick-off
fundraiser last Thursday in Dallas. The event, which featured guest
speaker Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle, far exceeded
the original fundraising goals set out by TEXVAC’s co-founders.
“The outpouring of support is proof that people in North Texas
are fed up with politics as usual and ready for change,” said
Ed Ishmael, TEXVAC co-founder. “TEXVAC will work to hold North
Texas officials accountable when they vote against the interests
of our community and fail to put the people’s interest first
- which is the end product of corrupt leadership in Austin.”
he added.
TEXVAC is a Democratic North Texas state PAC co-founded by Dallas
civic leaders, Ed Ishmael, Tom Solender and Russell Langley. Its
mission is dedicated to returning fair-minded, honest and progressive
officeholders to all levels of Texas government.
“We will work hard to take back Texas for everyday Texans,”
said Tom Solender, TEXVAC co-founder. “Under the Republican
leadership in our state, Texas now ranks last in the nation in the
percentage of children with health insurance, last in high school
graduation rates and we have the highest homeowners insurance in
the nation. The Republican leadership has failed North Texas families
on the most basic priorities – education, healthcare and taxes
– while they waste time pursuing narrow ideological agendas
that advance their own political interest,”
North Texas is a major battleground in taking back the Texas House
for Democrats, where Republicans currently hold an 87-63 majority.
TEXVAC will target several North Texas state House and Senate seats
that can be won by Democrats before the 2010 census and resulting
redistricting.
“Taking a regional approach and working with Democratic party
leaders, TEXVAC is well- positioned to help build on the momentum
of Democratic gains in Dallas County’s last election”,
said Marc Stanley, TEXVAC advisory board member.
TEXVAC’s impressive advisory board includes many business
and community leaders such as Martin Frost, John Bryant, Jim Wright,
Hon. Kathryn Hall, Regina Montoya, Russell Budd, Fred Baron, Cecilia
Boone, Marc Stanley, Dr. Adam Starr, Debbie Branson, Naomi Aberly
and many others.
