TEXVAC SPOTLIGHT
TEXVAC will highlight on a monthly basis advisory board members,
donors, and volunteers who are making a difference in North Texas
through their steadfast commitment to changing the face of Texas
Government at the local and state level. This month TEXVAC is proud
to profile Advisory Board Member Cecilia Boone.

SPOLIGHT ON TEXVAC BOARD MEMBER
CECILIA BOONE
Who is Cecilia Boone?
I was born in Kentucky and was working for IBM when I was transferred
to Dallas in 1972. I met my husband, Garrett and left IBM to help
him begin his fledgling business, The Container Store. We have three
children: Aimee, Katherine and Guthrie. My community involvement
is focused on the issues of women and girls. I am a past chair of
Planned Parenthood of North Texas and the current chair of the Planned
Parenthood Action Fund. I am also the current chair of Girls Inc.
and Chair-Elect of the Dallas Women’s Foundation. I am on
the Executive Committee of the Dallas County Community College Foundation,
the local steering committee for Annie’s List and a member
of the Dallas Summit.
How did you get involved in Democratic politics and
why do you continue?
I grew up in a strongly Democratic family in Kentucky. My mother,
a young widow, ran for public office in 1957 and held office for
22 years. As a young adult I was fairly apolitical: not interested
and not involved. It has been my commitment to gender equity and
social service issues that has reactivated my political interest.
Which historical figure do you most identify with?
I’d love to be able to say Eleanor Roosevelt or Susan B.
Anthony, but the truth is, I identify most with the women whose
names we don’t know…the women who have quietly made
a difference in their families, their churches and their communities.
If you could put your personal motto or recipe for
success on a bumper sticker, what would it say?
“It is not for you to complete the task, but neither is it
to desist from starting.” My thanks for this to Joy Mankoff
and Rabbi Tarfon.
What is the one thing that most people might be surprised
to learn about you?
I am an award-winning quilter.

ABOUT US
The mission of the Texas Values in Action Coalition
(TEXVAC) is to return fair-minded, honest, and progressive officeholders
to all levels of Texas government.
TEXVAC is a new organization dedicated to electing
Democratic candidates in North Texas. Successful races in 2004
in Dallas County and North Texas, coupled with competitive legislative
districts, create a unique window of opportunity to transform
politics in North Texas. TEXVAC is designed to harness momentum
from local victories in 2004, seizing opportunities to create
even greater change.
TEXVAC believes that the key to winning is supporting
well-funded, well-trained, expertly staffed candidates running
in targeted districts who are carrying a compelling message of
hope and change. And that winning combination takes substantial
early resources.
If you are tired of politics as usual for Texas Democrats - poorly
financed candidates running with an underdeveloped message - then
join the growing number of community leaders who are investing
with TEXVAC to give Democratic candidates the resources and tools
to win.
